Lighting has a much stronger impact than we realise, in terms of appearance, atmosphere, design and practicality. If chosen well, the right lighting will make or break a room, and one room that this applies to is your bathroom. It is common for bathrooms to have quite a lot of natural light, for example through big windows, but choosing artificial lights carefully can really enhance the whole look of the place. Sometimes it’s good to switch things up and change the design, for example if you’re redecorating your bathroom, with new colours, tiling or furniture, the right lighting will complement this perfectly.

It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to choosing bathroom lighting, so we wanted to give you a few ideas of ways you can mix things up and make the place look even better.

Mirror lighting

A lot of bathrooms are home to mirrored cupboards, and this is a really good place to incorporate some new lighting. For example, you may have these cupboards above your sink, having lights underneath it gives a really nice touch and also becomes pretty convenient and practical! Furthermore, adding lighting around any ordinary mirrors is a great idea, too. Not only does this look different and quite impressive, but it just helps you to see the reflection a little more clearly. Mirror lighting is very modern and works well both during the day and at night time.

Spotlights

The best thing about spotlights, is the classy and modern appearance they give off. They’re always something we recommend as they work well in all styles of bathrooms. Spotlights are generally adjustable too, so they can be dimmed to whatever kind of lighting you want, and this allows you to create a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Pendant lights

Pendant lights only really work well if you have a big and spacious bathroom. However, if this applies to you, they are a fantastic touch for design! Pendant lights are very classy and luxurious and compliment the place in a number of ways. These would be well placed over a unit or large sink area and are often an addition to other kinds of bathroom lighting.

Feature lighting

We highly recommend feature lighting to add to and complement the design of your bathroom. It is a great way to draw attention to and highlight furniture and assets within your bathroom and it creates a mood at the same time. Even if the rest of your bathroom is dim and the place is only lit up by your feature lighting, it’s a really stylish option and makes this a stand out feature in your home.
